Polychrome (or Desert Jasper) was only discovered in 2008 in Madagascar when miners were looking for new veins of Ocean Jasper. Much like Ocean Jasper, these pockets need to be dug out by hand due to the conditions in the area and difficult terrain. The original name, Desert Jasper was given due to the red and brown hues from Iron inclusions.
